7 Columns of Everyday Architecture Re:Made in Taiwan

7 Columns reporting from the front in Taiwan

2016 Venice Biennale Taiwan Pavilion is curated by Transdisciplinary Design Innovation Shop (TDIS) of National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan. For Curators, C.David TSENG, Eric CHUANG, Wei TSENG, and S.K.Sky TSENG announced “Re:Made in Taiwan-Common Construction” ,not only focus on architects or architectures but also explore the innovation and intelligence from everyday life. Through the point of view of everyday life and the manufacture of architecture respond “Reporting from the Front” announced by artistic curator, Alejandro Aravena.

Taiwan Pavilion as a news report with 7 columns, discovered the power of civil society from Taiwanese daily life rather than any star architect and any iconic building architecture. Taiwan Pavilion based on the innovative industries, exploring how Taiwanese face of the current global climate to find the opportunities from their lack. Following the famous brand “Made in Taiwan", Taiwan Pavilion share the world achievements “ReMade in Taiwan”. Rather than any iconic building, the exhibition are curated with Taiwanese real living environments to truly represents the people’s lives, needs, and desires. Through these total amount 98% Everyday Architectures which is collecting people’s intelligence, facing the environmental issues, social needs, and even natural disasters, Taiwan Pavilion not only refocus on the new battlefield which was usually ignored by professional architects but also find the solutions from Taiwanese people’s social network and their clever, diversity, and inclusiveness life.

ReMade in Taiwan: The Prototype of Innovative Architectures

Everyday Architectures full of imagination, presenting Taiwanese People who face the Global Environmental Issues and their own scarcity create the economic miracle by their optimistic and positive attitude. Based on the short supply chain and the big provide scope, “Made in Taiwan” was treated as diverse, flexible, and fast. Following the industrial upgrade, “Made in Taiwan”was change labor base industry to knowledge base industry which is sustainable, recycle, and remade. “Re:Made in Taiwan”in Taiwan Pavilion this year is not only a nature friendly action but also treat “common construction” as a big value in global culture renovation. The earth is now facing a huge challenge in the global warming. “Re:Made in Taiwan” is providing a positive contribution through innovative design research. Taiwan Pavilion is not only showing the scene of everyday architecture but also providing the nPulp House and the E Ink Cave as two prototype of innovative architecture which were TDIS cooperate with two Taiwanese enterprises, Yong Feng Yu and E Ink Holdings Incorporated.

nPulp Technology is remade by straw from agriculture instead of burned. TDIS use the nPulp technology to design an quick assemble and comfortable house. The life cycle of the nPulp House follow the concept “from cradle to cradle” which means form material manufactory to assemble, from use to destroy, every steps in the life cycle will not create any pollutions. The nPulp House is not only benefit with social living but also benefit with global environment. On the other hand, TDIS treat E Ink as a new skin of architecture. The new technology of monitor apply to the skin of architecture, create a dynamic façade which will rendered people’s imagination. Architecture will create a relationship between collective and individual, context and tectonic, ontology and adaptation as dialectical interaction.

Taiwan Architecture are Facing the World
